What is matcha?
Matcha is finely ground green tea leaf, traditionally consumed to boost energy and promote focus. Unlike most other tea where you are only drinking the extract, with matcha the entire leaf is consumed providing a significantly greater quantity of nutrients!
Matcha comes from Camellia sinensis, the same plant that green, oolong, and black tea come from, but it is grown, harvested, and produced in a much different way. The plants are shaded from light before harvesting, sending chlorophyll and L-theanine production into overdrive.
Along with their incredible nutritional benefits, chlorophyll gives matcha its signature hue, along with L-theanine that adds both umami and sweetness.
